Key Responsibility Areas:
Construction Monitoring on Housing Project
· Monitor the Contractors’ progress of projects on site and keeps in contact with the Clients via the PL
· Refers significant queries on design or engineering matters to the Design Engineer together with the approval of materials & alternative design proposals as required.
· Ensures that the design specs or other problems that may have relevance to future designs are brought to the attention of the Engineer.
· Applies relevant and applicable clauses of General Conditions of Contract to the project.
· Liaises with the Contractor’ Site Agent with regard to all aspects of the works.
· Ensures that the Contractor of his staff understand the obligations under the OHS Act.
· Assists with Environmental Management of the Contractors work.
· Communicates with the public via the Community Liaison Officer and reports to the Engineer when necessary.
· Liaises with the relevant service providers to co-ordinate the alteration or relocation of their services.
· Attends and /or chairs formal site meetings with the Contractor and Client.
· Prepares draft minutes of Technical and/or Site Meetings and submits.
· Maintains a site diary.
· Manages materials testing on-site and off-site.
· Issues Site Instructions to the Contractor.
· Plans and programmes diversion of traffic and re-location of services.
· Monitors progress as per approved construction programme and negotiates rectification of delays and work not scheduled.
· Checks and certifies monthly payment certificates for payment by the Client.
· Agrees measurement of quantities with the Contractor.
· Maintains a costing system to monitor costs to date and the project final contract value.
· Prepares Variation Orders for approval by the Engineer and Client.
· Assists the Engineer with the preparation of a list of outstanding works for the progression to Completion Certificate and issues to all concerned.
· Arranges the completion of “as built” drawings and Construction Report.
· Examines and measures excavations, consent to work being covered up and instruct the Contractor to uncover work and search for defects.
· Require the Contractor to repair and make good any damage or physical loss.
· Requests Accident Report.
· Requests quotations for material.
· Instructs the Contractor to have a qualified Site Agent to assist in or make measurements and to furnish particulars.
· Request and record facts and circumstances relevant to a claim.
· Witnesses all factual circumstances which have a bearing on claims for extension of time.
Minimum Requirements:
Pr Eng essential
Registration with ECSA essential
Minimum 10 years experience in the design and construction of civil engineering services
Depending on South African permanent residency, the position can be offered on either a permanent- or contract employment basis.
